Ideal for relaxing during the evening - or just lazing about during the day, if that's your inclination.

Breakfast is prepared using local produce when possible, but always with high quality ingredients - that is rule one. Cooked to order, so you may have to wait a short while - but relax, you're on holiday. When we say home made, we mean it - even the oat cakes and potato scones, the whisky marmalade and the apricot and ginger conserve.

£34 per person per night (for stays of 3 nights or more)

THE ISLE OF ARRAN
The first thing that visitors to Arran notice is the outstanding natural beauty of the island. Warmed by the gulf stream, and the most southerly of the Scottish islands, it is often referred to as "Scotland in Miniature". An island of contrasts - rugged mountain peaks and abundant wildlife, quiet sandy beaches and palm trees.

But there is more to it than that. There is something special about the ambience, a feeling that draws people back year after year, often for generations. It is truly a classic holiday island, with something for everyone, of all ages.

Walking - from gentle strolls along the beaches, to serious hill walking and rock climbing. And plenty of interest along the way, lots of history, unique geology, standing stones.

Seven golf courses (one for every day of the week!), some hilly, some flat, some 9 holes, some 18 holes, even the unique 12 holes at Shiskine. And with their geographical spread around the island, the sun's sure to be shining on one of them!

seal watching at Brodick

Arran is one of Scotland's best places to spot native wildlife - soaring eagles over the northern mountains, a large red deer population, seals and porpoises around its coasts (even the occasional basking shark if you're very patient or really lucky), and red squirrels in abundance. Watch their acrobatics from our deck!

Cycle hire, boating and sea angling, sub aqua and fresh water fishing, mountain biking and even paragliding - the list is endless.

Corrie harbour

For such a small island, with a resident population of under 5000, the economy is remarkably vigorous, typified by the distillery, the brewery, the cheese company, Arran aromatics - even a chocolate factory - and many craft shops and galleries. And they all welcome visitors, something to do on the occasional wet day. It's an easy 10 minute walk from Alltan to full indoor leisure facilities (swimming pool, gym and games hall).

In the evenings, especially in the summer months, regular traditional music sessions are held in hotels and pubs, and periodically live concerts from classical to rock.

Not forgetting "the screen machine" - a mobile 100 seat cinema which visits Brodick every couple of months, and shows up-to-date movies.

HOW TO GET HERE

By air - flights to Glasgow or Prestwick - many of them low cost, from elsewhere in the UK, or direct from many European cities and the USA.

Rail - direct rail line to Ardrossan Harbour from Glasgow Central. The trains are timed to integrate with the ferry service.

Ferry - Calmac operate a frequent car ferry service from Ardrossan to Brodick, seven days a week. For cars, pre-booking is strongly advised. For guests arriving on foot, courtesy ferry pick up will be arranged when possible.
There is also a ferry link from Lochranza at the north end of the island to Claonaig in Kintyre, which gives easy access to the west highland coast.
